Summer Collections Assistant

Job Description:
The Grohmann Museum is looking for a new team member to assist with a variety of duties that pertain to the care and maintenance of the museum and art collection. This is a hands on position that allows you to get up close and personal with priceless art and artifacts while we create and maintain beautiful and award winning displays in the museum, across MSOE, and beyond campus. Experience in multiple disciplines (workshop, power tools, computer use, lighting, inventory management, etc) is a plus, but not required. The collection assistant will start at 15-30 hrs per week, with the possibility to extend the position into the following academic year. Schedule is flexible!
Some duties of the position include:
- - General cleaning and maintenance of the museum, galleries, and displays
- - General collections support for museum and campus art projects
- - Movement and inventory of art, books, catalogues, and other materials (able to lift/move 30+ lbs)
- - Assistance in shipping, receiving, and packing - Installation of Museum exhibitions
- - Fabrication of display furnishings and framing
- - Occasional computer data management and reporting
- - Various (occasional) event assistance
- - A/V experience or background is a plus! (but not required)
The ideal candidate would have:
- - A professional and courteous demeanor.
- - Workshop and general safety experience.
- - The ability to work in a group setting, or independently.
- - A detail oriented eye, and strong communication.
- - A working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.); Google Office Suite is a plus!
- - The ability to learn and work with new software.
- - The ability to easily adapt to various work conditions and settings.
- - Willingness to learn new skills and grow with the position.
- - Potential to extend employment into following academic year.
