Elementary & Middle School Summer Programs

MSOE offers various programs each summer covering topics such as robotics, artificial intelligence, engineering, 3D printing, and more! To be notified when summer programs are released and exact dates each summer, sign up for our mailing list in the sidebar.
All programs are focused on leveraging hands-on activities to expose students to new and expanded areas in STEM. Program offerings may change from year to year and the below programs are provided as an example of the types of experiences students can expect to see at the STEM Center.

Catalyst for Future Success
This summer program is designed to enhance your child’s STEM skills through seeing real world applications of STEM subject areas. Topics of study are always selected to be unique from school-based offerings along with a focus on hands-on applications of each subject area. Past subject areas have included: 3D modeling & printing, biochemistry & biomolecular modeling, engineering design, digital prototyping, and hydroponics.
All Things Coding & Engineering
With sessions specific to middle school or elementary school students, All Things Coding and Engineering exposes students to different aspects of technology and engineering. Subject areas explored in prior camps include robotics, artificial intelligence, drones, microcontrollers, heat transfer and solar energy, thermodynamics, and drafting. This camp is perfect for elementary and middle school students who want to be introduced to a variety of subjects in STEM.
Digital Prototyping & Design
This program will be broken up into 2 parts. First, students will learn circuitry and coding basics using a Makey Makey, also known as a microcontroller. They will use what they learn to create and code an interactive story to share with others. Secondly, students will learn about digital prototyping and will be challenged to design, fabricate, and assemble their designs using Fab Maker Studio.
Introductory Robotics
Students work in teams of 4 to design, build and code a robot to complete missions on the prior years FIRST Lego League game board. While building their robot, teams also complete an innovation project that solves a problem related to the games theme. Students will utilize LEGO Mindstorms robots in this camp and leverage block-based coding.
Advanced Robotics
Students will work in teams of 4 to address a problem that requires a robot to solve. Students will then work in small groups to design and build a robot made out of pre-fabricated aluminum to compete, all while staying within the specifications given on the first day. Students will leverage black-based or scripted coding to program their robots and will build their robots from the ground up.
