Andrew Nebel
Senior computer engineering major Andrew Nebel has one less thing to worry about as his time at MSOE comes to an end. The upcoming graduate has had his post-graduation plans lined up since November thanks to his internship experiences.
“It feels really good that I don’t have to worry about the stress and hassle of finding a job. And it’s also nice that for now due to the pandemic I can still work from home for the foreseeable future, but I will be moving out to Santa Clara or San Jose when offices open up.”
Nebel will be starting at the multinational tech giant NVIDIA Corporation, where he interned twice before accepting his full-time position. His previous internships with the company and MSOE alumni are what sparked his desire to work there full-time.
“My sophomore year I had classes with Dr. Krueger, and he really liked my work ethic and how I did in his class. During the MSOE Career Fair I went to talk to NVIDIA, and he saw me there and pulled me aside so he could interview me and he kind of got my foot in the door [at NVIDIA].”
In his two internships, Nebel worked with two different teams, the first being SIPL (Sensor Input Processing Library) with NVMEDIA, a team within NVIDIA. Here he got to work with cameras and control systems for autonomous vehicles. The following internship, he switched gears and joined the GFW or graphics firmware team at NVIDIA where he worked on the controls for graphics cards.
“I got to work with RJ Wright. He was my mentor, and he went to MSOE. My manager Jim Van Veghel also went to MSOE. It was neat to have a group of MSOE people working together and who have similar backgrounds and experiences.”
Based on these experiences, Nebel was excited to accept a full-time role with NVIDIA upon his graduation in spring of 2022.
“I knew that was the team I wanted to work with because in my free time I like to build computers. If you build computers, you know that NVIDIA is the brand for graphics cards, so it was cool to work on something that I already use. Overall, I’m definitely excited for it and looking forward to working there. I can see myself working at NVIDIA for a long time.”
In his free time Nebel enjoys mountain biking, kayaking and photography, including flying a drone to capture photos. The coolest places he shot was near Moab in Utah and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He also likes to travel and enjoys visiting national parks.
