Global Maxima Series: Training deep neural networks to “see” and solve a variety of problems
The greater Milwaukee area tech community is invited to join MSOE faculty and students at the Global Maxima Series sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. Explore how deep neural networks can be trained to “see” and how they can be used to solve a variety of problems in computer vision. Leo Isikdogan, Ph.D., machine learning R&D engineer at Intel Corporation, will deliver a talk on the specific application areas of denoising, sharpening, super-resolution, colorization and style change.
The free program is open to public and will take place Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in MSOE’s Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall, 1025 N. Milwaukee St. Isikdogan will answer questions after his presentation, and guests will enjoy a networking reception at 8 p.m.

Isikdogan received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked with Alan Bovik and Paola Passalacqua. His past work involved developing machine learning systems that process images of different sorts, including video streams from web cameras, pictures taken with mobile devices, satellite imagery, and digital artwork posted on social media. Isikdogan also has an educational YouTube channel, where he teaches mini-lectures on machine learning, computer vision, and image processing.
