Jill Vande Boom has been named one of the 2016 New Faces of Civil Engineering – College, by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The ASCE New Faces represent the future of civil engineering.

Vande Boom is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering and both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering at MSOE. She’s active in several organizations on campus and has traveled the world gaining experience.

Most recently, Vande Boom traveled to Nashik, India, to compete with Team USA in the Community Plumbing Challenge. Team USA designed the winning solution to solve sanitation system problems in an elementary school in India. She also traveled with MSOE’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders to Guatemala.

Locally, she was chosen to participate in a six-part Master Class series with the design architect and development manager for the Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons. The class engaged more than 80 local architecture, interior design, engineering and real estate students from six area colleges in various elements of the company’s downtown Milwaukee expansion. The project and construction site became a real-world, working “laboratory”.

Vande Boom also has contributed to MSOE’s award-winning student organizations; MSOE’s group was named MCAA Student Chapter of the Year in 2015. In 2014, she helped MSOE continue its winning streak at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 3 Student Competitions. She was part of the National Champion Health Care Team, which estimated and planned the construction of a hospital and present that plan professionally and efficiently to a client.
