Jocelyn Riemann
Buildings and design have always held a special place in the heart of civil engineering major Jocelyn Riemann. She sets her goals high and has the ambition to back it up.
“My pipe dream of having my own company would require a contract with an engineer, so I decided to be that for myself,” said Riemann.
Riemann has traveled across the United States, living in four states and several cities, but Milwaukee feels the most like home to her. After spending time in a couple of traditional universities, she knew MSOE was the right fit for her.
“The idea of having no TAs, a better student-to-professor ratio, and being exposed to far more knowledge due to the quarter system in the same amount of time as a semester system was just far too appealing to turn away from.”
Her time at MSOE has been spent participating in multiple groups including the National Steel Bridge competition team and serving as the community outreach chair for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). This year she will take on a new role as a CREATE Institute Student Fellow.
The CREATE Institute ensures students receive well-rounded, high-impact educational experiences that enhance the relevancy of their learning. It is a campus resource for industry engagement and academic excellence, and focuses on faculty, student and community programming to ensure that all MSOE graduates embody the MSOE Mindset.
Riemann’s leadership advocacy alights perfectly with the CREATE Institute’s mission.
“I have always considered myself fairly active when it comes to advocating for leadership and community involvement, and the fact that CREATE presents the opportunity to dig deeper into both while assisting others to get involved and build my professional experience is exciting,” said Riemann.
As a student fellow, Riemann is looking forward to helpings others understand the core values of CREATE.
“I can’t wait to help other students and assist in not only bridging the gap between our school and local community, but also bring our students and faculty together.”
Outside of school, Riemann spent her summer as a project management intern at Bulley & Andrews, a Chicago-based construction firm that provides general contracting, construction management, design/build and masonry and concrete restoration. She traveled back to Milwaukee on the weekends for her second job. Even with her busy scheduled, she enjoyed attending a variety of concerts and music festivals and traveling with her friends.
