Congratulations to the nearly 100 Milwaukee School of Engineering students who were nominated for leadership awards this year. The following awards were announced at a Student Awards Celebration on May 2, 2022.

Outstanding Student Award
Nathan DuPont was chosen as the 2022 recipient of the Fred F. Loock Outstanding Student Award. This award is presented annually to the MSOE senior student, who, in the opinion of the faculty, most notably combines an excellent academic record and has at the same time demonstrated leadership and professional bearing in extracurricular or community service activities. It is the most prestigious student testimonial that MSOE bestows. DuPont will graduate May 21 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from MSOE.

Throughout his four years at MSOE, DuPont could be found making a positive impact in student clubs and organizations across campus, especially those involving robotics. He was the president, co-founder and software project manager for the VEX U Robotics Team, securing first place at the 2021 World Championship. He also served as president and founding member of MSOE AI Club and a FIRST Robotics Ambassador. As a FIRST Robotics Ambassador, he started and mentored robotics programs at various Milwaukee high schools. Additional clubs and student organizations he participated on include MSOE Robotics, NASA Robotics Mining Competition, Raider 3D, Phi Beta Lambda and Society of Software Engineers. DuPont made his mark in a variety of competitions, including earning first place in the Direct Supply Summer Hackathon in 2021, first place in the Rockwell 24-to-Code Hackathon in 2019 and was a finalist in 2020, and recently took home first place in the Rosie Supercomputer Super Challenge.

Outside of MSOE, DuPont held software engineering and machine learning internships at Direct Supply, a software engineering internship at Spaulding Medical LLC, and was a computer support technician at Polymath Inc. He is originally from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and will be joining SpaceX as a software engineer after graduation.
