Event to include talk by Dr. Eric Baumgartner, Mars Opportunity rover driver and MSOE vice president

“Good Night Oppy” tells the inspirational true story of Opportunity, a rover that was sent to Mars for a 90-day mission but ended up surviving for 15 years. The film follows Opportunity’s groundbreaking journey on Mars and the remarkable bond forged between a robot and her humans millions of miles away.

Milwaukee School of Engineering will host a special advanced sneak preview of the film for MSOE students, faculty and staff on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the NVIDIA Auditorium at Diercks Hall, 1025 N. Milwaukee St.

Following the movie, Dr. Eric Baumgartner, MSOE executive vice president of academics, will engage in a conversation about his experiences working at NASA on Opportunity. Dr. Baumgartner was the first person to drive Opportunity.

This free event is made possible by Prime Video. “Good Night Oppy” will play in select theaters nationwide Nov. 4 and will stream live on Prime Video beginning Nov. 23. The documentary is directed by Ryan White and produced by Jessica Hargrave, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Brandon Carroll and Matthew Goldberg. It is rated PG.

Information on how passes will be distributed on campus will be sent to all faculty, staff and students at their MSOE email address.

All pass holders must arrive no later than 6:10 p.m. After that time, non-passholders will be admitted to the auditorium on a first come, first served basis.
