Testing Center Policies and Procedures for Students
Open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Students are required to let TC know as soon as possible when they will need to schedule a test/quiz/exam. This must be done a minimum of 24 hours in advance (weekends are not included – so Monday tests must be scheduled the Friday before) using this online Test Scheduling Form. If your request is denied because you did not meet the scheduling deadline, you must take the test in class, whether on the original test date or an alternate date arranged with your instructor.
- The online form is not used to schedule final exams taken in week 11 of fall, winter, and spring terms. Final exam scheduling instructions are sent to all approved students via email during week 7 or 8 of those terms.
- When space permits, make-up tests can be scheduled in the TC for both accommodated and non-accommodated students. Make-up tests in the TC must be taken between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Students must receive prior approval from their instructor before scheduling a make-up test.
- Students will receive a confirmation email from TC when they have been added to the TC schedule. The information submitted by the student using the online form appears at the end of the confirmation email. Students are responsible for checking its accuracy.
- Students should contact TC via email to cancel any unnecessary testing appointments so that the seat can potentially be used for another student.
- When arriving for a testing appointment, students must produce a photo ID if asked.
- Students arriving more than ten (10) minutes late will not be allowed to start their test without the instructor’s approval. If the TC is unable to reach the instructor, the student will be sent to class.
- While testing, students must leave all backpacks, pencil/pen cases, phones, watches, fitness tracking devices and all other items with internet/Bluetooth access that are not specifically allowed on each exam, coats, jackets, hats (except head wear worn for religious reasons) in the TC office.
- Students are monitored by cameras with a recording device and/or a human proctor while testing.
- Students are not allowed to communicate with anyone except TC staff during testing.
- Students are not allowed to leave the TC unescorted for any reason while testing.
- Students are responsible for monitoring their own time while testing.
- When students have a class immediately following a test, they are responsible for arriving to that class on time.
- Students allowed to use a calculator on a test, cannot use units that have the following features (in addition to any features already not permitted by their instructor):
- Internet/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth capability
- Separate alpha keyboard
- Music sources used by students approved by SAS for that accommodation, cannot have Internet/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth capability.
- Students are not allowed to remove scratch paper from the TC.
- All permitted note sheets/cards will be collected and delivered to the instructor with the completed test, whether or not the instructor has requested it.
- When a student has questions during a test, TC will attempt to contact instructor. If that is not possible, the student will be asked to make an assumption and note it on the test.
- Students are to respect the confidentiality of others who receive testing accommodations. Conversations that take place in the TC are private, and should not be repeated.
- Students must follow published procedures to guarantee use of the TC.
- Display of misconduct or any failure to comply with Testing Center Policies gives TC staff the right to collect test materials and inform the instructor. Any instances of academic dishonesty will be reported to the instructor and department chairperson. Other MSOE staff members may be notified as deemed necessary on a case-by-case basis. In addition, other consequences may result, including the inability to schedule future tests in the TC.
