MSOE’s Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) competition team won the second place award at the Associated Schools of Construction National VDC Competition in Reno, Nevada. This competition challenges students from universities throughout the United States to develop creative solutions using a wide range of VDC technologies.

For the competition, students had to develop professional solutions of estimating, scheduling, site logistics and project coordination problems for a hospital project located in San Francisco. After receiving problem statements and accompanying documents at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, the students had 15 hours to develop solutions. They turned in their proposal at 10 p.m., but continued preparing their oral presentation, which was judged the next day by a group of professionals who had worked on the actual hospital project.  

“The judging panel said that MSOE nailed down all of the problems, and they loved the collaboration among our students from three different majors including architectural engineering, construction management and civil engineering,” said Dr. Jeong Woo, MSOE construction management program director.
