Cultivate your musical passion and join MSOE’s Music Program! The program offers both academic and a non-academic opportunity providing students with a positive and engaging experience. Students who want to continue playing their instrument and singing after high school may participate in our music ensembles. Students can earn a credit for participation in one of four concert ensembles (Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, String Orchestra, Concert Choir), and may also choose a non-credit option. Other ensembles with a non-credit option only include Pep Band and Jazz Combo. Students wanting to participate in Jazz Combo must obtain permission from the director.

To enroll for a credit option: 

- Fill out music forms sent to all students before academic quarter 

- Enroll in one of the HU4800 courses (4800, 4801, 4802, 4803, 4804) and a section corresponding to your desired ensemble. Register for the lowest course number offered during a particular quarter if enrolling for the first time.

 

To enroll for non-credit option:

- Fill out music forms sent to all students before term begins

 

As the university transitions to a semester system for the 2023/24 academic year, additional updates will be posted on this page in the summer of 2023. Additionally, student musicians participating for the first time must meet the following requirements: 

- 2 or more years of experience in an applicable high school music ensemble or equivalent experience. Special accommodations may be made at the Coordinator of Music Programs’ discretion.

- Able to read, rehearse and perform Grade 4 music.

 

Auditions are not required for participation in the music program but may be used at director’s discretion for skills assessment and/or chair placements.
